Work has completed on a £4.7m office building aimed at smaller businesses in Plymouth. The 22,000 sq ft Genesis Building, located in the Stonehouse area of the city, was built by a partnership of Millfields Trust, Macegreen Consulting, Form Design Architects and Midas Construction.

It is hoped that the development will contribute to the Millbay and Stonehouse Area Action Plan. Funding for the project was secured through the Department for Communities and Local Government's European Regional Development Fund competitiveness programme, the Growing Places Fund via the South West Local Enterprise Partnership and Millfields Trust reserves.

A statement from Macegreen Consulting said: "The building design embeds environmental awareness with low energy consumption and running costs. It also boasts the largest fully irrigated vertical living wall this side of Bristol, softening the appearance of the building, while helping to promote biodiversity.”

"The main contractor sought at every opportunity during the two stage design and build project to appoint local trades and suppliers, culminating in over 300 people employed during the 14 month build period, as well as taking on six new trade apprentices."
